2017 - 2018 Collins-Maxwell Elementary Goals
The process of creating a new identity is ongoing and work remains, however, the constant in all of these changes is the fact that we MUST provide the best education for our students at Collins-Maxwell.
Our teachers have spent much of their summer learning about new processes, strategies, and gaining additional tools to ensure that all students walking through our doors receive the highest level of education possible. They have put in countless hours planning for the upcoming school year. Our teachers are extraordinary people who love and care for each and every one of our kids.
On Wednesday we begin our 2017-2018 journey with a focus on two of our overarching goals for the school year. As we met throughout the summer, the focus was not only on our goals but also on how we were going to reach our goals. Teachers took part in 4 days of intensive Math training in June, a 3-day Professional Learning Institute in July, and they just finished up with 2 days of Literacy Intervention training in August. These resources have provided teachers with a great foundation to build on as we move into the new school year.
Last year we kicked off our "PRIDE" (Patience, Respect, I-Matter, Determination, Excellence) initiative. We will continue to grow that Spartan PRIDE initiative with the learning that will take place around PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention & Supports). Part of that work will include more communication with our stakeholders on how you can catch kids showing their Spartan PRIDE outside of school. The system will teach kids how to utilize these skills in-school and outside of school. Look for more information as the year goes!
Kids will continue to receive a Spartan PRIDE Ticket when they are caught displaying one of these characteristics. Make sure you celebrate with your child when he/she brings one home!
I am looking forward to another great year at Collins-Maxwell Elementary!
I came to Collins-Maxwell Elementary to serve as the PK-5 Principal in the Fall of 2014. Prior to CM, I served as an Assistant Elementary Principal in Cedar Falls, 2nd Grade Teacher in Cedar Rapids, and 4th Grade Teacher in Parkersburg.
