Summer is always an exciting time of year for everyone; playing outside, going to the pool, family vacations, and sleeping in are only some of the benefits summer provides for our students. I would encourage everyone to take advantage of this time you have during the summer months to do all of those things!
Summer is also a time for us to learn and grow! Your teachers spend time during the summer learning and preparing for the upcoming year. We had the privilege of learning from Vickie Borich, Heartland AEA Math Consultant, during the week of May 29. Teachers spent 4 days digging into Math instruction and finding ways to improve instructional practices and gaining fresh ideas from Vickie. Her expertise was extremely beneficial for our team and the teachers are eager to implement their new learning this fall.
Our next learning opportunity comes during the last week of July when nearly all of our staff at Collins-Maxwell will be attending a 3 day conference in Minneapolis to learn and begin implementation of Professional Learning Communities. It will be an intense 3 days of learning but I am certain we will come back charged up!
The final summer learning opportunity for our teachers happens August 10th & 11th when we will have representatives from the 95% Group in Collins working with our teachers on high quality literacy interventions. Along with the learning, our teachers will leave the training with an abundance of resources and expertise to meet student needs efficiently.
Your incredibly hard working teachers will be spending a lot of time this summer preparing for the 2017-2018 school year!
Along with all of this learning, we are also seeing a few facelifts around Collins-Maxwell Elementary! We will be finishing up the installation of our new playground soon, our gym and locker rooms have a fresh coat of paint, our vegetable garden is beginning to produce vegetables that were served to the students during our Summer Enrichment program and will be served to students this fall, the pollinator garden has a great start, and our outdoor classroom is looking fantastic and full of life!
The Collins-Maxwell Elementary office will be closed during the month of July with the exception of the following times for Registration:
Enjoy the remainder of your summer!
I came to Collins-Maxwell Elementary to serve as the PK-5 Principal in the Fall of 2014. Prior to CM, I served as an Assistant Elementary Principal in Cedar Falls, 2nd Grade Teacher in Cedar Rapids, and 4th Grade Teacher in Parkersburg.
